Post Relocating from NY to Florida

I will be moving next spring from Yonkers to Naples, Florida by May 2007. I will be taking some furniture and momentos, plus my car. The rest of my furniture I will sell or donate. I do not want to rent a truck as I don't have anyone to help load and unload the rental truck.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what are the costs for using a small moving company and how do I get my car to Florida.

Default Moving

My parents just moved from Detroit to FL, and I can tell you they were not happy with the moving company. They were given a rate over the phone of about $1500, but failed to tell them they then charge I don't know how much for each pound. Turned out to be about $3000, It's not cheap to have a moving co. move your stuff. Then the other problem is they pick up loads from other people who are moving....so my question is, how do they weigh it accurately? They don't! When my parents stuff arrived, stuff was missing (must have dropped it off at one of the other stops) and some things were broken. No they have to make a claim to the moving companies insurance agency and have gotten nowhere. Be careful when hiring a company, find out how they charge, how many other loads they are shipping and insurance. Good luck
