The elementary schools for Larchmont are Murray Ave and Chatsworth Ave. There are some streets that are right on the border to the village of Larchmont, but are actually part of Mamaroneck - they are zoned for Central Elementary. The middle school is Hommocks Middle School, which is shared by Larchmont and Mamaroneck. Same with the high school (Mamaroneck High).

Elementary school is full day, 5 days. School is from 8:40-3:00pm (Kindergarten dismisses at 2:55pm to avoid the rush - at least at Chatsworth). There are some half days for parent conferences, and days off for other reasons. Here is the school calendar for the upcoming year: http://www.mamkschools.org/www/mamks...r2016-2017.pdf

I live and grew up in Harrison (West Harrison to be exact) and think it is a great town. West Harrison has real down to earth people, while Downtown and Purchase have some of the extremely wealthy. Your kids would not have to deal with those people until 6th grade. The elementary school in West Harrison is S. J. Preston, and it is a really great and supportive place. The middle school, Louis M. Klein, is downtown as is Harrison High. A great town with a diverse group of people.

In what world is downtown harrison "extremely wealthy"? It's probably less wealthy than west harrison.

Hello... I'm the OP and wanted to share that we have been going to Westchester and visiting towns. So far Irvington SD seems very promising. We really liked the river towns. We will be going to Ardsley, Hartsdale and Harrison next.

Would love to know your thoughts/experiences in regards to the community, schools, facilities in Irvington/Tarrytown area.

Thanks so much and look forward!!

Irvington is probably the best of the river towns. You do not have any of the big box stores and all of the traffic and congestion that go along with it. Yet it is convenient to all of them. It's an easy commute to the city and the schools are rated high. Of course I'm a little prejudiced as I was born and raised there along with 3 generations of my family. At least during the time I lived there it was a great place to grow up and raise a family in. That is if you must live in New York.

I'd stay away from Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow (formerly North Tarrytown). There was always trouble in the schools especially Sleepy Hollow High School. Washington Irving Middle School has also had it's share of problems. Many who attend those schools are children of children. A lot of them don't speak English. At least that's the way it was when I was growing up. I doubt the demographics have changed since then.

Ardsley is small yet congested. The NY State Thruway runs thru it and there's usually a lot of traffic on Ashford Avenue and Sawmill River Road. As far as I know they do not have their own train station. The Ardsley station is actually located in Irvington. Can't help you out with the schools.
