600k just doesn't buy you a lot in Westchester, and the taxes in most places are at minimum around 15k. Maybe just go to a site like redfin.com and put in your price range and see what else is available. There isn't some magical place that no one is telling you about. If I put in 600k with a keyword "renovated" you only get about 50 homes from New Rochelle to Ossining. Really in my opinion if you stay away from Yonkers and Mount Vernon, you really can't do terribly anywhere in Westchester.
This is also a tough time of year. Houses tend to go on the market in the early spring and now things are dwindling down. People who are trying to move in between school years are out of luck if they're not in contract already. By October, everything is dead and the only "new" listings you'll see are recycled ones that didn't sell in the spring.

Look at Crestwood. It is tuckahoe po but in the city of Yonkers.
I just sold my house there. A very nice 4 bedroom, walk to train for just under
600. That's the median price for the neighborhood. Taxes are
Low as well .. Ours were 12.

Only issue for us was Yonkers schools ... But we used the catholic schools instead.
