Hello
I'm considering renting an apartment in Durham Road, Yonkers.
The area is beautiful, country-like and peaceful.

I am concerned, though, about how safe it is to walk ouside alone. Given that the neighborhood is not densely populated, I am somewhat in doubt whether it would be advisable. I am very found of walks, however, and wouldn't like to give it up
Plus, I have a 3 year-old daughter, is the area safe and friendly for children?

Is anybody familiar with the neighborhood in question?

How is it compared to other parts of Westchester (Tuckahoe and White plains)?

Thank you for your help,

Natali

Bronxville PO(Yonkers) area is very safe. I live in the area and it is safe to walk everywhere. There are many young families in the area also. I often go to a show or dinner late on Friday night and will take midnight train back and there would be other commuters both male and female walking home. Saying that, I think during four years since we moved here, I think I have read just a few petty thief incidents. The area that you mentioned is close to Sarah Laurence College so there are also college security monitoring at night also.

However, you do need to do some research in term of school since this will not be part of Bronxville village school district.

Crime in that section of Yonkers is basically nonexistent. The crime issue in yonkers in general is heavily exaggerwted. The homicide rate there is below the national average despite the fact that it's a city and crime hasn't been high there since the 90s.

You will have your rims stolen. Other than that, don't walk late at night and you'll be fine.

Thank you all for your answers!
It is reassuring to know the streets are not deserted.

Iching, I don't know what you would consider late at night - midnight? 2AM?

And thank you, Patrick, for mentioning the school issue. We are aware of that problem, but our daughter is already placed in an excellent preschool nearby.

Late would be when all the foot traffic stops. We used to live near Cross County Mall/Saint Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers and moved out in 2014. When we moved in around 2005 it used to be super quiet and nice then around 2012 it really got a lot worse. I've had a security camera installed and would go running around 11 PM and I've seen a lot of crazy stuff. I would mostly worry about the car and don't go to South West Yonkers unless you have it. You'll be fine.
