Our spring/summer househunt within Westchester did not land us anything yet... which means we won't make the start of the new school year in the area we like.

Since I've heard that new inventory tends to open up in the Fall, has anyone had experience, good or bad, with starting their children at a new school mid-year?

We have and they survive Kids are resilient and while, the first month is heart wrenching, all seems fine after that. I think the older the kids are, the more difficult it becomes, but not always the case. There are always new kids in class mid year. Sometimes, it just has to be that way. Home searching in Westchester ain't easy!

My husband and I have been house searching for 2 years. We always wanted to leave the Bronx before my son started kindergarten, and we looked at everything out there and couldn't make anything work. He wound up going to K in our local public school.
The spring listings started coming out and this year we went for it - had offers that were beat, had accepted offers but couldn't come to terms on contracts... here it is two weeks until school starts and we finally found a house and went to contract - but we won't be in before school starts.
Bottom line is, you may want to move in the summer, but it doesn't always work that way. Finding the right house at the right price in the area you want is HARD. If you find it, don't worry about when it is and go for it.
