Moving to Thornwood
Dear All,
My family and I (with two elementary school kids) are seriously thinking about moving to Thornwood from the Bronx. Can any Thornwood residents offer some advice on what the town has to offer (i.e., activities for kids, after-school programs, etc.). What's the commute like into Grand Central Station? Does the town offer any Summer Camps? Does it have a Cinema, Swimming Pool, recreation center, gym, etc. Your thoughts and replies are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

I live in Thornwood. I believe it is a great area, and yes, it has everything you listed. Thornwood is just a small part of Mt. Pleasant, and within Mount Pleasant, there is a cinema in Hawthorne (less than a mile away), a pool in Thornwood and Valhalla, two large shopping centers within Thornwood, Mt. Pleasant town summer camps (some in Thornwood, Valhalla, etc.), plenty of restaurants throughout Thornwood and Hawthorne and another nice shopping area in neighboring Pleasantville. There is Carol Park in Thornwood, Broadway Field in Hawthorne, and the Rockefeller Reserve a couple miles away. The schools are nice and are located in Hawthorne and Thornwood (The school district is mostly Thornwood and Hawthorne, although there are a few Valhalla and Pleasantville students). For the most part a great town and many new houses and stores are being built throughout it. Very close to both the Pleasantville and Hawthorne Train Stations.

I lived in Pleasantville for 8 years, and loved both Pleasantville and Thornwood. Close to all. You can use either the Hawthorne or Pleasantville and get down to GCT in approx. 50 minutes (If I remember the schedule correctly). Good luck on your search.
