Default Up and coming neighborhoods?

Hi,

My husband and I are considering moving to Westchester from Brooklyn. We've done some preliminary house hunting but its difficult not knowing more about the neighborhoods.

Can anyone give me some information on up and coming neighborhoods in or around the White Plains area?

Thanks so much for any info you can provide!

Karen

I should say that we're looking for something in the mid 300's price range.

I'd also be open to up and coming neighborhoods in other sections of Westchester. Anyone have any info? Thanks.

I hear great things about New Rochelle. They have been building alot near the train station. This would be my suggestion for up and coming. However, you would be in on ground level.

Seriously? I see listings of homes in that range in places ranging from Yonkers to White Plains, Elmsford, and more northern parts of Westchester county. Are you saying that all of those places are most likely undesirable locations or complete gut jobs?

I realize that my price point is on the low end, and I'm willing to consider townhouses or condos if need be. We don't need something huge, 2 BR is big enough. We don't have children and so we're not all that concerned with what school district we would live in. We're just looking for a relatively safe area with a reasonable commute to NYC.

A House for $300k lol. Thats a good one. Do you work at a comedy club at night?

I live in a decent neighborhood in the Bronx and most detached houses around here go for $400-500k.

Maybe you could find a condo for that ammount, more likely it will be a co-op.

You can find condos in Yonkers, White Plains and other parts of lower Westchester county, Yonkers is undergoing renovations and some consider it up and coming, I lived there for many years and my clients are usually pleasantly surprised with the various aspects of Yonkers. Yes it is a city and all cities have crime rates... upper westchester (Thornwood, Hawthorne, Pleasantville and north) you can find two bedrooms for the high 300's to low 400's (they are usually around 900-950 square feet for the high 300's---low 400's gets you usually1100-1200 square feet. Good luck on your search.

Thank you to those of you who gave me advice rather than just sneering at my question. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
