Facebook is the best way. I've sold a lot on it. Westchester County Tag Sale is the biggest group, with 21,000 members. Westchester Tag Sales has 17,000 or so.
When using FB (or Craigslist etc ..) keep in mind that NY IS special. Make sure to have someone home with you or meet in public. Some police stations have places in their parking lots for such transactions. Being a New Yorker in the Midwest now, no one here seems to even consider these things.
Some people are impossible to deal with. I have sold things, agreed to a price, and when they arrive to pick it up, they want it for less. Last year I sold a holiday blow-up lawn decoration that was unopened, in its original packaging and never used. It retailed at walmart for $150, I sold it for $25 on a facebook site. The person came and said they would not take it unless they could confirm that it worked. I was fine with that. They opened it, unwrapped it, and tested it. It worked perfectly. Then they told me they would only give me $10 for it. I said no, we agreed on $25. They had the nerve to tell me that since it was now opened and used, I could not sell it as unopened and unused. After throwing them out, I just gave it to goodwill.
Wow, that's terrible but sadly, after having gone through some pretty bad experiences, I'm not surprised that those types of people exist.
