I'm moving to westchester for residency for the next four years. Is it possible to buy a 1BR condominium in a safe area in westchester (preferably in 20 mins commuting distance to valhalla) for around $150-200k? What areas would you recommend with good resell values?
Alternatively, is it possible to find a studio - 1BR apartment for around $1200-1400/mo in a safe area in westchester? I'll have a car so commuting isnt an issue but safety is the biggest concern.
You could probably buy something in your budget, but renting would be harder. Most places in the surrounding areas would rent for probably 1600-2500 a month (that I've seen)
You should check the real estate sites like zillow for prices - as far as neighborhoods go, everything surrounding Valhalla is really pretty safe. White Plains, Mount Pleasant, Ossining, Hartsdale, and Valhalla itself would all be good spots where you should be able to find a condo.
East Hartsdale Ave, Hartsdale NY (access to train and local Main st st has a lot) mostly 6 to 10 ft mid rises
Route 119 (Broadway) in White plains, a nice are (real easy Hwy access andto the city of White Plains) of garden style apartments, Another nice are is in the Silver Lake area of Harrison, easy commute to Val because you will usually be driving against the bridge traffic, check out Columbus ave, lots of 1 bed coops in your range and are is nice$
both are less than 10 minute drive to Valhalla if your working at WMC, keep your search to the 287 hwy corridor ( runs eat to west) and south
im not familiar with the rental market but you will need to come up in price.
