Hello - my partner and I are considering buying part time home in Westchester. We live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn right now but want more space.
The towns we've heard the most about are Peekskill, Tarrytown, Croton, and Hastings. Wondering which of these (as well as other candidates) we should check out.
We're looking for a progressive vibe, diversity, and good restaurants (hah). We want some land so it doesn't have to be too walkable. But close to the train to the City is valuable.
Budget for a single family is in the $800k-$900k range; really hoping to find a contemporary / modern home with some land.
We do not have kids and will not ever, so school district is not only irrelevant, but I'm kind of hoping I can get a better deal for the house being in area that perhaps doesn't have such a great district.
I think Tarrytown is very accepting and has a lot of what you are looking for. The food scene gets better and better as time goes by. Plus - express trains into the city when you need it.
