We are looking to move from New Jersey to Westchester county. We really like the houses in Harrison (Park Lane Reserve) as compared to what we have seen in Irvington/Dobbs Ferry/Mamaroneck etc.

We have only 1 kid and are looking for a town that is not too crazy on property taxes as we would only have 1 kid using the public school system. Taxes seem decent in Harrison as well as compared to other Westchester county towns.

But I have read some rather strong reviews on City-Data about Harrison. That it is primarily Italian and Jewish? We are Asians and I was wondering if Harrison has a decent amount of Asians or not? Also, are there any particular parts of Harrison we should avoid? and if so why?

I understand that I am really not answering your questions, but whether or not you have 1 kid or 100 kids, you will be paying the property taxes on your house, whatever they may be. Property tax is a fixed variable no matter the amount of kids.

Yup, that doesnt answer my question. I totally understand taxes are independent of how many kids one has. I was simply trying to say that having 1 kid makes me feel less justified to pay very high taxes. People who have more kids and have more use of the public school system can feel the higher taxes are somewhat justified. Either ways my main question was reviews on harrison and if/what areas of harrison are better or worse compared to other areas in harrison.

Harrison is more diverse than what you describe. It is also extremely socio-economically diverse. You will find all sorts of people. I wouldn't say tons of Asian families, but rather just a mixture. If you want a strong Asian presence you should look in the Edgewood neighborhood of Scarsdale.

No real areas to avoid, but the "downtown" area (near Halstead/Harrison Ave) is more working class/less posh than Sterling Ridge or Purchase.

I have many friends living in the area zoned for Harrison Avenue School and they love it (the town and the school).

Thanks streetsmart. Glad to hear that. We hear edgemont school district is very competitive pressure cooker like environment and we are really trying to avoid that if thats indeed the case. Is sports a major area of focus in Harrison? Do kids who do better in sports do better here? What if our kids dont have the same amount of interest in sport? I am wondering if being in a very sports oriented education town could be bad in any way? Thanks once again.

I wasn't referring to Edgemont, which is a district in Scarsdale PO but not Scarsdale Village, but Edgewood, which is a neighborhood and corresponding elementary school in Scarsdale School District. Anyways, if you're not looking for pressure cooker schools neither one would work for you.

And yes, Harrison does seem to be a bit sports oriented. I feel like it's big enough though that it probably doesn't matter. There are plenty of STEM programs and arts programs around if that's more your thing.
