Hi all,
My husband and I have two young children and we're looking to move some place with good public schools, an inclusive and diverse population, and a not-terrible commute into the city.
From what I can tell, Mamaroneck fits the bill, and is top on my list so far. Can anyone tell me if it is truly diverse (I have this idea in my head that many places in Westchester are not)? Our kids are mixed, and I'd love for them to have friends who come from a range of backgrounds and economic statuses, religion, etc. Also, are all the elementary schools strong academically? Are some more or less diverse than others?
Thank you for any insight. Mamaroneck seems really wonderful and I'm hoping it's the town for us!

While not about Mamaroneck, this is a very similar thread in regards to some Westchester County schools: Considering move from Manhattan to Bronxville

Mamaroneck is one of the more diverse small towns in lower Westchester. New Rochelle, Yonkers, Port Chester and White Plains are more diverse, but larger (both in population and feel). I'd say the close small towns in lower Westchester are Pelham and Eastchester.

Thank you so much! That's good to know. I definitely would prefer not to live in a town that's too small - but don't need a huge town either.

Maro is probably one of the few well-ranked school districts in Westchester with some actual diversity.

Two of the elementary schools are pretty homogeneous, the other two are much more diverse. Pro tip: come to the diverse side and get much more house for your money

Mamaroneck Avenue School and Central are the diverse ones, yes? Do you know what part of Mamaroneck those serve? If a realtor asks which neighborhoods within Mamaroneck we are focusing our search on, I would love to have an answer. Are there any downsides to these parts? Further from the train etc.?
Thank you all so much!

As has been discussed recently in another thread, the Mamaroneck SD, just like any other SD, can alter the makeup of its various schools at any time. So a house that may be served by Central Elementary School today may not be served by such school tomorrow. How frequently SDs make these internal changes and whether such are likely to happen in the future is something someone with local knowledge may know.
