Want for sidewalk community in W.C. or Fairfield
Hi - We moved to the town of Fairfield from Detroit Metro area (Birmingham) and we feel to isolated with a 2 and 4 year old. I also am driving way too much. It's 5 miles one way just to get groceries. I'd like to beable to walk to a coffee shop, elementary school, and library, ect. Any ideas?? I'm going to look at Larchmont but we'd get a much smaller house and I also love Ridgefield. Are there any other areas I'm overlooking??? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Pleasantville. Charming and walkable. Katonah, if you live near the village. And keep looking at Larchmont.

New Milford, CT might suit you. Movie, bookstore, clothing, and more in town, and near some of the prettiest small towns.
Even has a gazebo in the town square!

New Milford is a viable option. The downtown was used in 'Mr. Deeds' and is the most affordable option among Larchmont and Ridgefield. New Milford would be the furthest commute to the city.
Downtown Ridgefield is much like Larchmont, but more affordable. It is a little bit further away from the city but still in a good commuting distance. There are some nice single family homes close to it in around the high $700,000 price range all the way up to $2.25 million. The schools are very good and the taxes are reasonable ($8900 for a home listed just under a million). The library is located right on main street, one of the two middle schools is about a block or two to the east of Main street as an elemtary school There are a lot of protected open space in Ridgefield that are great for nature lovers. I can't think of anything bad to say about it.

Thanks for info
Thanks for the info. I'm going to check out some of these areas - My husband works in Norwalk so I think Tarrytown and Sleepy hollow may be too far. We are not sure how long he'll be in Norwalk and want to remain communtable to NYC. I'll google New Milford and find out where that is. Otherwise I guess I'll be going to Larchmont soon along with Kotonah and Pleasantville, and I'm already familar with Ridgefield - Love it. Thanks for your input.

New Canaan has a great downtown area but of course is pretty expensive. Fabulous schools. Lower Westchester has more 'walkable' towns than CT has. Pelham is very walkable and close to NYC. Westport has a very good sense of community. Keep us posted!
