Question about backyard
The house we are looking to rent does not have a backyard fence. We'd need to put a fence in the back and also just perpendicular to house on the both sides, just a few feet there (not along the sides of the house). The owner is saying if we need the fence that we should put it in. We are thinking since the fence will stay after we leave the house, they should pay for it. How is this handled usually? Also, the backyard is all weed.. basically no grass.. if we were to put grass in, it would be a lot... but the way it is our kids cant run barefoot or anything. thanks!

It depends on the lease. If YOU make improvements, some leases require you to remove those additions/changes to leave the property in original condition. If I were your landlord, and you wanted a fence, I have to be honest, I'd put that burden on the renter.

If you want the fence put it in, ask the Landlord if he would be willing to share the cost.
Same goes for the grass.
They both improve his property.
Make the decision based on your life though.
You would motivate him by making a firm offer to rent subject to him doing some things.
All the best!

You need a fence. Why should the owner pay even 1 dollar for it?

I'm pretty sure that since the OP posted over a year ago, this is a moot point.
