Hi. We are planning a move to NY due to my husband's company requiring him to be in-person. We are South Asian (my husband is Indian and I am Pakistani) and are considering Chappaqua due to the school district. Our son currently goes to a private school in Austin, TX that is quite diverse. What are the public schools like in Chappaqua? Are there any South Asian kids? We don't want a heavily South Asian neighborhood, but are hoping for at least some representation so he doesn't feel left out.
Also, are there things to do in Chappaqua for young kids on weekends? We won't know anyone there and would like to get out of the house as much as possible. Thanks!
There are no westchester towns that are heavily south Asian. Not at all close to Jersey. Scarsdale has a presence but most towns East Asians would outnumber them. Chappaqua has its share of Asians. It’s never been the whitest town. That is reserved for Somers.
Teachers in Chappaqua are resourceful for any student. This is the case in most schools. However, since Chappaqua has been ranked high for its educational standards, you should feel better knowing that if your child needs more attention to a specific subject, there will be plenty of teachers and staff members who will take their time to make sure a lesson is learned.
Education is at the forefront of Chappaqua’s values. It is a competitive school district for sure. There are many advanced placement programs offered. Horace Greeley High School has been in the top rankings for a while in the state and the county. The campus of Greeley unique because of its design. The campus has a lot to offer, including many fields for athletic events.
Chappaqua has a downtown section where you will find parades during Memorial Day and community day.
Even by the police station there is a baseball field and a playground open to the public. Your kids shouldn’t have a problem finding things to keep themselves busy.
There is a cultural center for Muslims near Chappaqua. It is the Upper Westchester Muslim Society. You can find people of similar beliefs and make friends there. They have a lot of events and you can bring children of all ages for social activities.
Overall, I would recommend Chappaqua because you get more property than other towns in lower Westchester.
