Hi,

My work place is Midtown Manhattan. Would towns in Westchester Co. be good for me to look out for apartment rentals? Considerations for me are primarily: Rent (up to $1500), Safety (no crime), quiet, shops and restaurants close by, quick commute to midtown.

From other messages, I understand that I should be staying away from Yonkers and New Rochelle. But other towns are okay?

I'm an Asian Indian. I know I may sound a little silly - but - is there any raci** that I'll face in those parts (I'll be staying there with my wife - both of us having modern outlooks, having traveled internationally quite a bit).

Much appreciated!!

Most of southern westchester is fairly diverse. There may be some attitude toward certain racial groups, but not towards Indians (at least in my experience). Some parts of Yonkers, especially the North East side are quite nice and might be most practical in your price range. For example the area around Sarah Lawrence college is beautiful, though if schools are a concern Yonkers is not the place to move. I like White Plains, if you want more of a city feel. The towns along the Hudson are quite nice, Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Tarrytown. You could find a small but nice one bedroom for what you are looking to spend.

Larchmont, Scarsdale and Hartsdale are worth investigating.

Thanks for the tips. But I think I'll have to stalk the NJ forums now, cuz my firm's offices are relocating there in the next two months.

Thanks just the same ...
