Hi - I once took the Metro-North to Riverdale and it impressed me as a rather pleasant ride, especially compared to the LIRR. It was very scenic. I also noticed that there were multiple train tracks which allows both local and express trains to run. Are there many delays on the Hudson line? Are people satisfied with the service?
I've been amazed at the reliability of the trains. They're almost always within a few minutes of the schedule. I've had a few big delays due to weather and train malfunctions--but I think maybe 4 or 5 times in 6 years. The express trains can get really crowded at rush hour, but by and large the ride is very pleasant--and the view is awesome. Other than the occasional person yacking on their cell, I generally find the trip to be very relaxing.
According to MetroNorth, the "on-time rate" for the Hudson line is 98.6%, slightly lower than the Harlem line (99.2%) and slightly above the New Haven line (98.3%):

The number of trains will vary depending on the station. I use Croton-Harmon, which is an express hub and has more trains than most. I sometimes use Mt Kisco (since my wife works there and will drop me off if my car is in the shop, for example) and there are far fewer trains at rush hour.
The best thing about the Hudson line is the view. i've been taking the trip daily for years and am still mesmerized by the view!
