As stated above, most districts have good services for kids with special needs. We're in Yorkton Central School district and our son has received excellent OT, PT, and Speech through the schools. The schools have wonderful "collaborative" classrooms with 4-5 special ed kids and up to 15 regular ed kids in a room with a special ed teacher and aide and a regular ed teacher and aide. Having 4 teachers with a max of 20 kids gives everyone a lot of attention and allows the special ed and regular ed teachers to give each student the specific help they need. In general I have found the school to be extremely attuned to the fact that all kids learn in their own way and that even the most advanced students need 'special' attention.

a school district with small classes for bright children with special needs.
The program is not in Briarcliff Manor. That is the school system I live in. They pay for my son to go the program which is located at the Main Street school in Irvington and is run by Boces of Southern Westchester.

Default special needs services NY

Hello Westchester: I'm looking at moving to your area, or another county in NY because of the good things I've read about services for developmentally disabled people. I have a 22 yr old DD daughter who is finished with the public school, we live in No IL and I'm very unhappy with this state. She gets medicaid waiver money but there are no services to buy and the state won't even consider a group home for her until we are dying/dead. She sits home all day and watches TV. There's a good spec rec pgm that's very expensive, $40-$50 for a Fri nt movie, but no respite services at all.
We live north of Chicago in a nice suburb, that's comparable in home prices to NY--I think. RE taxes in IL are 2% of the property, income tax is 5.5%, city sales tax in our county is 7.5%.
I'm researching Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam, and on LI-Nassau & Suffolk counties. Any information will be very helpful. Thanks from "Greenerpastures".

I have also heard that Ardsley has an excellent program for Special Ed students and that a lot of people with special ed children move there for that reason.

White Plains has great schools for this. I have a dyslexic nephew in the school.

All the best!
