Rye os Scarsdale ?
My husband is right now looking at houses to rent in Rye and Scarsdale/Hartsdale. Which of the 2 towns would you rather live and why ? What is the best commute ? We are a brazilian family with 2 teen girls, one 4 year old girl, a brazilian nanny and we will both be working near Grand Station.
Tks for your help deciding.

Both areas are excellent choices for a family with good schools in Scarsdale, Edgemont, and Rye districts. In terms of commute, Scarsdale station has a slight edge, since there are more trains that get to Grand Central in 30-35 minutes, even some that leave in the 8 o'clock hour. Rye is not bad, but it's 10-15 minutes longer each way on the train, depending upon the train. That said, there's a lot to be offered in Rye with the proximity to Long Island Sound for recreational opportunities. I think that you would be equally happy in either community since they are not too different, though the Edgemont area of Scarsdale/Hartsdale outside the village itself does have more of an open, laid-back attitude in comparison to other nearby areas.

I live in Scarsdale and I'm in high school. Scarsdale is an excellent school district (national reputation of excellence), beautiful village, very close to the city, easy access to the Bronx River Parkway, a train station, etc. The high school looks more like a university than a high school. Love this town. Perfect location.

Did you rent and move?
Did you move? Would love to share your experience. We are a family that has lived in Brazil, now in Miami, and will be moving in 09 to NY. We have narrowed it down to Rye and Scarsdale based on excellence in academics, proximity to schools/train and cultural diversity (as much as you can get in the suburbs), since our kids consider themselves "citizens of the world", have no real "home base", and are well traveled.
