Hi,
My family (wife and 2yr old) are most likely going to relocate to the NYC area in the next 9 months (wife's gotta be closer to family). We are moving from DC and I have identified Yonkers NY as a possibility. Specifically we were looking at the area very close to Kinsley Park directly east of N Broadway and west of Nepperhan ave and south of Riverside Hospital. We saw a nice Tudor there on Morsemere Ave a couple of weeks back and the area seemed to have a good vibe.
We are African American and are looking for some diversity in the area. The area seemed to be heavy Italian, I like Italians but we did see some colored folks there also.
Can anyone give me their opinion of the area as far as proximity to Manhattan, Crime, Schools, Demographics ..ect.
Contrary to popular belief, Yonkers is a pretty diverse place! I think you will find all types of folks in all areas of Yonkers. Good luck in your search!
you can take the metro north from the yonkers ave. station into grand central terminal. it's on buena vista avenue & it's about 28 minutes on an express train. there's plenty of shopping off tuckahoe road, shop rite, stu leonards off I87, pathmark on central ave. & the cross county shopping center (retail) & the westchester mall in white plains. yonkers is a very diverse area. it's just like any other smaller city in a larger city (NYC). the area you're talking about is populated w/a all ethnic groups.
good luck!
