You can afford a coop in that range. I just saw a coworker listing her 2 BR, 1.5 Ba Coop in Hartsdale for 229k. The sq ftg was 975, I think. It looked nicely maintained and in a nice, safe area. I'm sure there are other areas with under 300k prices.

The scary/depressing thing is, many young couples (my wife and I included) are still looking, and so any posts relative to this topic are still relevant (either for the original poster, or similarly situated readers).
