I think white plains is a great city. It has everything. My sister is single, commutes to NYC and walks each am and pm to the train station from near the nordstrom /stop and shop area. She's been doing this for like 8 years, very safe. Her fiance has 2 kids and they were upstate more, his son requires special ed, and he has now moved back to white plains schools as the schools are much better for him. And compared to where i am currently (south central PA.) I'd have to say the schools are good there. Where i am now, they are not. It's all relative but there are school compare sites and they allow you to compare to your current school.
