Default Home Inspectors

Hi Everyone,

We are first time home buyers and were wondering if anyone had any recommendations for home inspector's in the Eastchester\Hartsdale\Bronxville\White Plains area. Our real estate agent is willing to suggest some but thought it would be a good idea to also seek some more neutral ones.

Thank you!

Check Independent Home Inspector of North America. You are right to stay away from a Real Estate recommended home inspector. They do not ever recommend a "deal killer", which is their term. You might label them as thorough and conscientious.Try a list from NAHI.com and look for an inspector with the CRI designation. They have more experience and continuing ed.Check the websites. I would only use an inspector that carries Errors and Omission insurance. NYS does not require E & O; it just requires liability insurance. Look for a sample report. Make sure it is clear with a lot of pictures. Homegauge is a good software program. Homegauge.com keeps a list of inspectors that use their software. You do not want your roof inspected with binoculars. Make sure your inspector comes with ladders that at least reach the 2nd story.Interview the inspector over the phone. Make sure that a company does not switch and send you an inexperienced inspector.
