Default Hospitals in Westchester? R.N. work?

Hi everyone!
Tried to do a search on this but little success.I am wondering what hospitals are in Westchester County? Are there jobs for R.N.'s?
What towns are in Westchester county... and what towns are an hour commute or less to NYC in Westchester county?
Here is the scoop: I am an R.N. that has worked many areas but last number of years I have worked medical, behavioral health and detox. I want to find employment outside of NYC , but my partner works right in Downtown Manhattan and would need to drive (work related car) to Manhattan every morning.
I am trying to find a job and then a rental (maybe townhouse community) that has at best one hour drive into the city (for my partner) but a short drive for me
We are youthful and therefore do not want to live anywhere ultra conservative but on the other hand we dont want to live in the hood either or in a high crime area. Also I have two small dogs under 15 lbs and would like to find an area that is reasonably dog friendly.
Wheew! Lots of requests I know but if anyone has some insight I would appreciate it.
Thank you so much!

The major area hospitals are White Plains Hospital Center, Sound Shore Hospital, Lawrence Hospital, Phelps Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital, Hudson Valley Hospital Center, Westchester Medical Center. I think I'm leaving out a couple hospitals in Yonkers, and there may be some smaller and specialized hospitals. For behavioral health and detox, St. Vincent's (In Harrison) is the major area psyche/detox hospital.

I don't know the current hiring situation for nurses in Westchester, but I'm generally under the impression that most hospitals typically have openings and need for qualified nurses.

No matter what hospital you choose, in Westchester, you can find a decent community in which to reside, within 15-20 minutes of a drive. (If not less than 5 minutes!). For example, I live in a townhouse in a very prestigious Westchester town, just a 10 minute drive from Northern Westchester Hospital Center, 10-15 minutes from Westchester Medical Center, 15-20 minutes from Phelps, and 20-25 minutes from White Plains Hospital.

Depends partially on your budget, and the type of community/lifestyle that you seek.

Wow!
Thank you so much for your feedback!
Now how far would these areas be from Downtown Manhattan?
Also what price range are these Townhouses ?
Or say a one bedroom apt in the area?
Thanks again

St. Joseph's Hospital and St. John's Riverside are both in Yonkers, though the patient population can be vastly different than say Lawrence in Bronxville in the same general area of Westchester. Four Winds Hospital is just outside Katonah as well, if you are a psychiatric RN. Also in White Plains is Burke Rehabilitation Hospital which has both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, while Sound Shore Hospital is located in New Rochelle.

What sort of town/village lifestyle to do you want? Parts of Lower Westchester can be more expensive, owing to easy access to the city, not that Northeastern Westchester is that inexpensive, either. The drive to Manhattan is better below White Plains, generally speaking, since White Plains can be a tad congested during rush hours.

Bronxville is convenient, but expensive, though neighboring areas are very close to the village and can partake of the shops, train, etc. within walking distance. The Bronxville P.O. (zip code area) is generally less expensive than Bronxville proper. Tuckahoe is another small village that has good access to NYC by vehicle and to other parts of Westchester for the hospitals. Pelham is another area that springs to mind as having the conveniences you'd like. On the other side of the county, along the Hudson River, you have places like Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, and Irvington that offer a more relaxed (for Westchester) lifestyle and still have relatively good vehicle access to Manhattan. Scarsdale can be expensive, and very family-oriented, but neighboring Hartsdale might be worth considering, since I'm assuming you don't need public schools.

To search for rentals, you can check the NY Times or the Westchester Board of Realtors. Here are a couple of links for you:

EDIT: I just saw that you're in behavioral health, so Four Winds might be a good bet if you want to stay in that field. Also, there are hospitals in nearby Connecticut that are convenient if you live on the Sound Shore side of Westchester or in Central Westchester, the hiccup being White Plains at rush hour. In New Canaan, CT, Silver Hill Hospital specializes in mental health as well.

Price ranges depend on the specific town. But overall, for a 2+ bedroom townhouse, I think you are looking at $3,000-$5,000 per month. 1-2 bedroom apartments would come cheaper.

I can't really speak about the driving commute into downtown Manhattan. I'm more used to the train commute into Grand Central. But I think you'd be safe almost anywhere in southern or central Westchester. You could probably go a bit north of White Plains, but the far northern parts of the county might be too far.

RN_NY is on a distinguished road
Default Check out Harriman, NY

I am an RN in Rockland County- my husband travels to CT, NYC, Westchester, and NJ. We live in Lexington Hills (condos) in Harriman, NY (a village of Monroe). Commuting to NYC is excellent as the train station is a mile or so away and NYC commuter buses are right here too. Cost of living is cheap and many of our neighbors are NYC commuters. Here's an example of a condo in our complex:

Good Luck!
