Towns with afforable rental homes and good schools
My husband and I are considering leaving Brooklyn to find more space and a more suburban lifestyle in Westchester. We are interested in renting a 3BR single family home in a family friendly community where our infant daughter can go to safe and good quality schools. What towns offer good schools and affordable rental homes with a 45-60 min commute to city?

Yorktown and Somers are possiblities. If you want to go rural maybe Bedford or North Salem.

We really need to know your budget. There's a world of difference in prices between Yorktown Heights and North Salem.

rental house budget
Alright well to keep this thread going (and to kinda hijack it for my own interests)
I am looking to move from Vermont to the Westchester area with a rental budget of $3000/month with the eventual goal of buying a place (within a year or so).
What towns offer good services and schools within this price range?
And within 30-60 mins of NYC by train...
thank you very much!

If you want a single-family house with at least 3 bedrooms, that budget is a bit tight--but there are options all over. Doing a quick search I found houses that I personally liked at that price in Bedford, Croton, Pleasantville, Yorktown Heights, Mt. Kisco, and Cortland Manor. (My favorites were one in Bedford for $2,900, one in Mt. Kisco for $3,000, and one in Croton for a $2,800). All of those towns have good schools, amenities, and commutes (although most are on the higher end of your commute limit). The pickings are slim at that price, but depending on what you want you should find something that works for you.

Maybe an apartment, but I doubt you'll find a house for that amount.
