DIY jobs in Westchester
I am interested in a house in Eastchester, but it needs lots of updates. Considering we expect to live in that house in the next 10 years, I would like to renovate it (most things including french door for back yard, all windows, all baths, all applicants and rewiring) before we move in.
Some of those jobs want to be done by DIY (including some plumbings and rewirings ). As I do not have license for those DIY job, my question is if this town strickly requie a license and permit? Can I do DIY without license? Must I apply for the permit? I know some states require that license and permits but most residences to do DIY jobs without it.
thanks for your reply

Eastchester is a bit fickle when it comes to systems, and I believe that you have to use a licensed electrician and plumber in Westchester, save for in-kind replacements such as a switch or fixture. IIRC, a friend had to have a permit to have their roof re-shingled in Eastchester.
I'd check with the town to be certain of the requirements as to what you can do as a DIYer and what requires a contractor, and which jobs require a permit, since you would not want to get into a situation with a certificate of occupancy in flux for work performed without a permit.

Perhaps the town building department could answer all your questions.

Eastchester
I live in Eastchester and I do work in Eastchester , and you need a permit for just about everything. Electrical, plumbing, structural, must all be Liscensed. their are also things you may get a permit for and diy but that may cause your taxes to go up....

We are also DIYers getting ready to add a new bathroom in an existing space. I've looked into getting a permit and was told I would need one and that while we could do the rest ourselves, all the plumbing and electrical had to be done by a contractor licensed by Westchester County.
