Default Is Rockland cheaper then Westchester????

My husband and I want to buy a townhouse in the upper 3s. We are having a hard time finding townhouses in Westchester (the taxes are too high). Would Rockland be cheaper (considering bridge tolls for the both of us)? My husband and I both work in the city. We find that Rockland (Congers, Nyak) is cheaper. Is it worth it? How MUCH cheaper is Rockand?

You can look at the major real estate websites and look. They frequently post the property tax.

Yes, it is much cheaper, because it will make for a significantly worse commute.

Where in NYC do you work? The commute from NYC to Rockland during rush hour will be a nightmare. Not only will you have to deal with NYC traffic, you will also have to deal with Westchester and bridge traffic, unless of course, you don't commute during rush hour.
Did you try White Plains or Harrison-taxes there are a little lower

One summer Friday, my bus commute from Port Authority to Nanuet took 4 hours. I decided to rent an apartment on top of a pizza place in Westchester instead.

Default ????

I work in the upper East side and my husband near Yankee staduim (bronx court). I am a teacher so I will leave during rush hour. I heard about the TPZ and its a nightmare. I looked in WP and Harrison and the houses need work and/or too small. The houses we are looking for is updated and a nice size. Should I deal with the nightmare traffic or is it not THAT worth it???

Look further north in Westchester. The houses are less expensive than southern Westchester and the commute is shorter than Rockland.

Its really not worth it. I had a hard time dealing with traffic on the West Side Highway. I can't imagine having to add 287 and the Tappan Zee bridge to that.

If you get off work before 5, you may be ok traffic wise coming home and Yankee Stadium is more the Bronx so you actually miss FDR traffic but may run into some congestion on the Deegan.

I would do a drive during rush hour to test it out and you can see for yourself if the commute will be worth it for you. I personally would take more time than a bigger house but that just me. Good Luck with whatever you decide.
