Relocation from Tampa, FL to Croton, NY??
I am looking for opinions on the financial sense it would make to relocate to Westchester County. We are looking to move out of the city and settle in a small town atmosphere. I am a Banker, 36, my husband is a Teacher, 39, we have no children right now but hope to soon. In addition, we would like to purchase a home in Southern Westchester ideally in Croton, Pleasantville, Ardsley, Greenburgh, Valhalla (you get the point). We hope to find a SAFE family neighborhood with good schools and would like to limit our budget to a max of $500K. Also, would it be horrible to commute to NYC or are we better off looking for employment in White Plains or across the river in NJ? (there are SO many different small school districts) Any input or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Can you clarify please? It's not really clear what you're trying to do. Are you planning to move from Tampa to NY or moving from NYC to Westchester? And in either case, you plan to move first and then look for work?

Commuting is pretty good from all the areas you mentioned.
Ardsley, Pleasantville, Croton all have very good schools. Valhalla lacks the elite reputation, but I haven't heard bad things about the schools. Greenburgh schools are bad.
Your budget will he tight, you will be looking mostly at older and smaller houses in that budget. Of the towns you mentioned, you have the best chance of finding something half decent in your budget, in Croton, possibly Valhalla.
