Default Harrison questions

We're looking at a house in Rye that is closer to the Harrison train station. Does anyone know how hard it is to park at the Harrison train station as a non-resident? How early would my husband have to get there to get a metered spot?

While I know Harrison doesn't have the cutest downtown, does it have some decent shops and restaurants for everyday needs? Thanks!

I'm not in Harrison as much as some other areas in Westchester, but just off the top of my head, I believe there are two supermarkets, some banks, a florist, a Quiznos, Dunkin Donuts and a pizzeria. Can't comment about availability of finer restaurants (there used to be at least one, but I'm not sure if it's still there). Harrison used to have its own movie theatre, but that's been closed for several years.

Harrison does have a couple pretty good restaurants.... But Harrison actually covers a relatively large geographic area. A major shopping area of Harrison is actually not all that close to the Harrison train station, but really lies on the northeast border of White Plains.

And to that extent, in terms of needs for shopping, restaurants, recreation -- Sounds like you wouldn't be more than about 10 minutes from White Plains, which would give you easy access to all of the above.

In terms of the Harrison parking lot -- Best way to get an answer about non-resident permits, is to call the parking administrator yourself and ask. You can get the contact information off the metronorth website.

Are you referring to West Harrison, which is also known as Silver Lake? I think the OP was more interested in what was in the "downtown" Harrison area, as she mentioned that the house she was looking at was near Harrison train station. That's why I didn't say anything about Silver Lake in my earlier post.

You can't get an annual permit from the Town to park at Harrison Station if you are not a Town of Harrison resident. MTA has a metered car park on the northbound side of the tracks that non-residents can use. Presumably you are also near Mamaroneck where you can get an MTA annual permit to park in their non-residents commuter car park (they may have a waitlist though).
