Default Dobbs Ferry vs Chappaqua

We are a 2 mommy family looking to move to either Dobbs Ferry or Chappaqua. We've looked at other rivertowns and haven't been able to find anything we like in our price range but have found something in Dobbs Ferry. Our realtor then took us to Chappaqua which looks really nice also. My concern/question is where would a family like ours fit in better? Also, does the commute to Chappaqua keep people from going into the city frequently for fun?

Commute won't keep you from going to NYC from either town; both have highways close by that you can use to drive in and both have train stations close by if you prefer the train. Chappaqua is considered a very wealthy enclave of Westchester and the school district is considered number 1 with all the innate pressures that implies both on parents and students. I went to college in Dobbs Ferry, always liked it and would prefer to live there over Chappaqua.

I reside in Chappaqua. I wouldn't call it rural, but it has more open space than Dobbs. It's a wealthy town with great schools. It is not the coldest of towns, but also not the most open.
I do think your type of family would generally be welcome in Chappaqua, but you would likely find Dobbs a bit more welcoming, with more similar families.

Good luck.

I live near Dobbs and it is a down to earth friendly community. I am sure people will be welcoming as Dobbs is the least pretentious/snobby of the river towns. Commute to NYC is very easy as Dobbs has its own station.

Another town to consider is Scarsdale. Scarsdale is open when it comes to same sex parents. My nieces go to school in Scarsdale and both their class lists have multiple students who have either 2 daddies or 2 mommies. Good Luck.

Default I think....

Most places in Westchester would be open minded.
That being said, Dobbs is really pretty & the place I would recommend.

I lived in Dobbs. Pretty open residents. It's closer to the city and is less rural than Chap. It'll be more crowded though.
