I goofed...I put a hole in the canvas of my wife's favorite painting. I promised to fix it, but I'm not sure how, and I'm definitely not going to try myself.

Any of you folks know anyone in the Westchester area that does this kind of work?

I would call the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan and ask about getting a recommendation for restoration. Or check the Franklin Report: Welcome to The Franklin Report

I cannot think of anyone in Westchester or Fairfield that does this, but agree that there are places in the city to check. There are any number of art conservators, many of whom are specialists in terms of the era and style of painting. I'd second Viralmd's recommendation to talk to the Met, and might also talk to the staff at MoMa for some recommendations. You can Google art conservators and then cross-reference with recommendations from the Met or from MoMa.

I would definitely not recommend a local type of shop that can "restore" the work, since a bad restoration can do more harm to the painting than the original damage. And, a good restoration should be done with materials that are not going to negatively impact the stability of the canvas in the long-term. The best conservators use methods that can be reversed, should a better method become available in the future. Now, of course, this does not cover cleaning and any paint restoration as the canvas is not as likely to be impacted negatively by such processes, since a brightened and/or complete painting will have value-added through the procedure.

Ask for samples and referrals from any candidate as a good conservator will have no problem supplying both. Some galleries that may be specialists can also point you in the direction of a conservator, though sometimes they are not as impartial as a museum as there may be a commercial relationship that exists between the two parties in other aspects of the business. However, some galleries that deal in a particular genre are going to be able to point you in the direction of area experts, which, again, could be cross-referenced with the list from the museum to find the best conservation/restoration service for your particular issue.

Good luck!
