Default Suggestions requested

Can anyone suggest an area in Westchester County that is accepting and safe for a lesbian couple to live?

The common wisdom is that the western side of the county is more "liberal" and therefore more likely to be open to non-traditional families. But I doubt that there is anywhere in Westchester that would not be "accepting and safe" for a gay or lesbian couple. I live in Yorktown Heights and we have 3 gay couples (2 with kids) in our relatively small neighborhood. I personally know of at least 4 other such couples with kids in the school system. Our neighbors are certainly accepted and they seem quite happy--and their children are definitely thriving in the school system. I would not be shocked if there were some people in town who are not totally accepting--but they are definitely the minority and they keep quiet about it. Based on my limited experience, you should be fine anywhere.

Thank you so much for your advise. It's funny how you mentioned Yorktown Heights because that's one of the towns I'm seriously considering. Thanks again.

I would concur with dma1250 and think that the Hudson River side of Westchester is going to be the most welcoming, but Westchester is mostly a sophisticated place, and what's considered conservative isn't that conservative. Hastings-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, and Ardsley would also be areas that I'd recommend, and even Croton-on-Hudson could work, though the commute can take longer.

You are most welcome. Please post again when you have done some exploring if you need any questions answered, since there's a wealth of knowledge on the Westchester board, and the posters here do a great job of giving the lay of the land. Best of luck in your search!
