Do you have this information for Larchmont, mamaroneck, pelham and white plains? or how can I access it. I tried but got lost on the website. I am latina and I have visited Larchmont and Pelham and I ran into some very nice down to earth people, including two teens.

However, I went to my co-worker - who lives in Purchase- for advise and she told me a story about her spanish friend who chose to move out of Silver lake 10 years ago because the children in school would not accept her son and most of them picked on him. She told me to look out for that type of thing. I know this was a long time ago.

I just got a job in Westchester and want to move there to be closer to my job. But I want a pleasant quite place, with nice apartments, reasonaly consistent with the price, without prejudism, with good schools. It would break my heart for my son to experience the same thing that boy did though.

I don't mind paying more if I am getting more. I just don't think its reasonalbe to pay $1600 for a 2 bedroom basement. I don't know if this makes sense to anyone.

I also read in the news paper that there was a big vandalism and a kid's jaw was broken at the park.

If you have any comments on my concerns, I will highly appreciate it. Otherwise, thanks anyway.

Wow!!! Very helpful!!!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!! This information is exactly what I needed. I think I will go with pelham, but I will steer away from Mt. Vernon Borders.

You don't need to worry about the Mt Vernon border. A lot of police live in those houses... both from Pelham and from other towns. It's probably the safest area in Pelham. And Pelham is a really safe town.

In regards to your friends's problem with children in Silver Lake/West Harrison- the school was probably Preston Elem. in Harrison- which is about 30-40% Hispanic children- so that definitely would not be a program any longer.

You mentioned Larchmont- 2 bedroom rentals start at around 3k and neither of the elementary schools in the village have diversity- about 98% caucasian.

I believe the only elementary school in Pelham with a diverse student body would be Hutchinson school- other than that- schools are not very diverse.

Eastchester is not diverse at all either- mostly Italian and Irish.

White Plains sounds like it might fit the bill for you. Also check out Mamaroneck. New Rochelle has some excellent elementary schools- I think Ward and Davis.

Tarrytown is definitely worth checking out. The schools are big, but are supposed to have great programs- and very pretty there.

good luck!
