Advice needed
We just bought a house in Dobbs Ferry using Ardsley schools. I work in downtown Manhattan west 14th street. What's the best way to commute? How long does it take to commute? How can I get a permit to train station? and also how do I register my child to Ardsley elementary school? I'd appreciate some advice.

Here are some links to get you going:
For the schools, I would call Ardsley directly. Here's a link to their "Contact Us" section from their webpage: Ardsley UFD Contacts
For the train, check with the village clerk in Dobbs Ferry, but you will be a non-resident applicant and there can be a very long waiting list: Dobbs Ferry Commuting by train to the subway is likely your easiest route, since driving can be well over an hour, plus parking fees in Manhattan. You could also see if you can get on one of the Bee Line buses that connects with the subway to get to 14th Street, though it would likely take longer than going to MetroNorth.
You may check with MetroNorth's parking contractor Allright to see where you might find a spot in the local area, but it could be somplace like Mount Vernon, requiring a drive to get there. Also, there are meters in some villages for non-permit holders, but they can fill up quickly.

Actually as a resident of Dobbs Ferry you will have no problem getting a parking permit. Call the Dobbs Ferry Police Department and you can get a parking permit for the Dobbs Ferry train station pretty quickly, there are a ton of spaces for Dobbs Ferry residents and it doesn't take long. Commute is not bad - about a 35-40 minute train ride to Grand Central but then the 4 or 6 train to Wall Street. We live in Ardsley, husband commutes to Wall Street - its about an hour.
As fas as schools, call the school directly and leave a message. someone will get back to you. When registered my daughter for Kindergarden, they called me in for an appointment and I brought my daughter. I think the school psychologist sat with her and asked her a bunch of questions while the I went over paperwork and showed proof of residency. It was pretty easy.

Good catch...I was typing quickly, while somewhat distracted, and processed Ardsley, forgetting that it was the schools and that the OP is in Dobbs. Thanks!

You can get Verizon FiOS in Dobbs Ferry, and Cablevision's Optimum offerings are also available in your neck of the woods.

We use Verizon for our phone, cable and internet but we used to have Optimum. Both are available but I think Verizon is 1000x better. At one point we also used to have DirecTV.

If you're commuting by train, there's plenty of street parking a block or two from the Hastings train station.
However, getting from GC to the West Side then down town is a PITA.
Some people drive straight down the West Side which isn't bad.

It's not that bad: take the shuttle at Grand Central and then the 1 or 9 IRT downtown.
