1) Other than Ardsley and Eastchester, which school districts have good reputation for their special education in general?

2) Which districts have a good inclusion program, rather than grouping them by their functional levels, at the prek through elementary level?

3) In which school districts would we be able to obtain services - speech therapy 5 times a week at school and home combined for a non-speaking child, for instance - without a LOT of struggle?

3) My child is 4 so he's still at the CPSE level, so I'd like to know which districts are understanding and accomodating of a child's needs both at the preschool and elementary school levels.

4) *For my other (non special needs) children, may I ask you how I might find out which districts offer full day kindergarten for ALL children from 4 years of age?

Thank you very much in advance for your time~

We live in Mamaroneck school district and we are happy with the services my son receives at the CPSE level. (He's 3 years old) They have an really well regarded in-district preK program, but the chair is also flexible if you find a better suited program in Westchester for your child. (Keller, Children's School, and Hawthorne Country Day are all well regarded). At the CSE level, I don't believe Mamaroneck is as generous (no district really is); I'm probably going to have to really push for services because my son is verbal and is mild on the spectrum. They do not have an special education integrated program in Kindergarten from what I understand, but they will arrange for a specialist to come visit your child's classroom to consult with the teacher to address areas of concern. I know of someone in Edgemont who also is receiving great services through CSPE. She sends her child to the JCC in Scarsdale - 1/2 day self contained class and then 1/2 day mainstream with an aid. I've heard nothing but complaints about Scarsdale special education services both at CPSE & CSE levels. The CPSE chair I hear is terrible, uncaring person. She has brought couples to tears. I have heard that most school districts are about the same in Westchester in terms of providing services -with the exception of Scarsdale. Yonkers gets mixed reviews, but I know of two people there who have received great services at both CPSE & CSE levels (a friend at the CSE level was able to send her child out of district - actually to Mamaroneck's self contained class). You could try posting your question here as well and see if anyone else has an opinion. I'm just not as familiar with CSE & kindergarten options yet.
