the traffic noise from Post road, how bad is it?
My husband and I are buying our first house and we are looking Scarsdale. There is a beautiful house right on Post road and my husband likes it very much, but I'm kind of worry about the noise. Looks like it is a very busy street. Bottom line, I don't want noise when I sleep at night. My agent told me that it's quiet in the evening (say after 11pm), is it true? Is the traffic noise will be a big weakness when we sell the house in the future?

Honestly, the noise IS THERE & the noise is why you will get a better price on the house now & will have a tougher time trying to sell the house. From my memory...houses on Post road could sell for 100K LESS than comparable ones not on Post road. If you sell your house for less, accordingly, you may be fine. In addition, if the housing market tightens up & there are fewer properties on sale in Scarsdale, you may actually get more interest & higher offers in a few years than now (with the almost dead housing market). It's all crystal ball-reading, but is something to consider.
True, night is quiet... but it's a popular road.
The amount of noise will also depend on the seasons. With the loss of leaves (if the house has lots of bushes around it), it gets louder.
THIS being said... it's still a heck of a lot quieter than my old apt in NYC.

thanx for your opinions, it's really helpful. One more question, although the location is close to Scarsdale train station, looks like it's even more convenient to take the 40 bus to White Plain train station. How is everyone doing? Do they drive to Scarsdale station or take the bus to White plain?

The noise shouldnt be that bad. I mean, there is traffic, but it's not like anyone is honking their horn up and down that road. Rather than the noise, I would be more concerned about getting in and out of the driveway.
(Is the color of the house white with a semi circular drive way by any chance?)

i don't think it will be an issue at night. Post Rd is really not that busy at night (after 8) or in the morning (before 8). I would feel differently id the house were near a parkway but Post Rd is not terrible. I agree with the PP who said that I would be more worried about getting out of the driveway. How far back from the road is the house?

If you drive to Scarsdale, you will have to pay to park and it costs about 500-700 a year. You will also need to see if spaces are available. The Scarsdale train station parking lot is actually run by the Town of Eastchester. You will have to call the Eastchester Town Clerk to get availability and cost. Good Luck!

the noise isn't bad at all on that part of post, the noisiest/congested part of Post rd is in WP by the hospital/courthouse. Even around there after a certain time it isn't that noisy lol!
