I have a question considering condos/townhouses that are Bronxville PO but lay in Yonkers. I have seen some really nice places listed for a price that's pretty affordable.

There are obvious problems with these places being in Yonkers school district, but at the same time lower taxes and prices may offset the cost of sending a child to a private school.

Anyway, just would like to hear some opinions on the subject.

Thank you in advance.

Where in Yonkers are the condos/apartments? Are they on Bronx River Road (which is nowhere near Bronxville)? Plenty of people choose to live in Yonkers and send their kids to parochial schools. There are so many beautiful areas in Yonkers and you can get more for your money. If you are choosing to go this route, I wouldn't just stick to Yonkers with a Bronxille PO (that doesn't mean much), I would also look in other areas of Yonkers where you can get the same price break but be in a better area overall. Good Luck.

I would like to be close to the Bronxville train station. It's just really convenient. Plus, I like the village a great deal.
I was thinking about condos on Rockledge Road. Seems like a neat complex and close to the train and the village.Any opinion on those?

I agree with you .....but the common charges plus taxes amount to a hefty sum.

Rockledge is nice and close to some of the mansions in Yonkers. I've heard of people benefiting from the Bronxville PO on sales tax and insurance because it looked up the zip code and not the actual municipality.

The good thing about Yonkers schools is you can choose where to send your child. It's not necessarily the neighborhood school or one closest to you. Check www.yonkerspublicschools.org for more info. And with Microsoft investing in the district and the recent addition of college preparatory programs, you can truly find some high achieving and challenging schools in Yonkers. Try and get a report on each school specifically rather than the district as a whole and you will have a clearer picture of the education in Yonkers.

I have friends who graduated from Yonkers schools and attended Harvard, Yale, MIT, Cornell.

Rockledge is nice, but don't overlook Palmbrook Gardens across the street...same location, but lower prices.

The area is walkable to Bronxville RR and the village stores. But it's also right near Central Avenue and the Bronx River and Sprain Parkways.

RayMathewHomes mentions the mansions in the area...this is Lawrence Park West, a great area for a walk or a jog, and not far from Sarah Lawrence College.
