Default Dobbs Ferry versus Tarrytown

I posted previously about our possible move to Westchester and everyone provided such helpful feedback. Based on our needs and budget (up to 800K with short train ride to NYC), we are considering Dobbs Ferry and Tarrytown. We are a biracial family and good schools with some diversity are important (but it does not have to be a top tier district b/c we will likely start with private school).

We also prefer a vibrant downtown with plenty of restaurants versus a rural atmosphere. Can you tell me how Dobbs Ferry and Tarrytown compare. Also, I read many negative things about Sleepy Hollow. Are there parts of Tarrytown close to Sleepy Hollow that we should be weary of? Thanks again.

I've always gotten the impression that Tarrytown schools aren't very good. I don't have any facts to back that up, but I've always heard it discussed as if it were common knowledge. I'd be interested if anyone more familiar with the district can validate or refute that perception. That being said, Tarrytown trumps Dobbs in terms of diversity and a vibrant business district.

if your family is biracial/multicultural then I'd say Tarrytown is the better choice by far. Dobbs ferry is a nice town but Tarrytown has more diversity. As far as the school system goes, your child will be fine in TT schools probably until HS (there are some things that go. They even have a very well regarded specialized middle school, I forget the name but you'll see it if you look to your left while driving down 9a into town.

Yeah, Tarrytown is definitely more diverse.
