Default Armonk, staying at the end of October, what's there to do ??

Hello everyone,

I'll be staying in Armonk at the end of October & very begining of November. What are the touristy things to do around Westchester ? Some stuff for the kids as well (Hayrides, Halloween things). Also interested in Leaf Peeping & nice sports bars and/or good places to catch World Series games (if Yankees are playing, keeping fingers crossed). Looking for that Great New York Pizza, Great Chinese for delivery, Farmer's market, Pumpkin Pie, Coffee-Houses. What about public transit as I'll only have a rental for about a week, while on business..., the other week I'll be my own. How's Palisades Mall & The Westchester in White Plains for some shopping & dining ? Thanks in advance for any & all responses, It's greatly appreciated.

Much regards,
Sonny-in-Miami

You should definitely go to the Jack O'lantern Blaze in Croton:
Historic Hudson Valley - The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze
Tickets are selling pretty fast so you might want to scoop up tickets sooner than later. There's also Legends in Sleepy Hollow:
Historic Hudson Valley - Legend Nights
You'd need a car for both of those.
I know nothing about sports bars and very little about the immediate Armonk vicinity. There are plenty of people on here who do, though.

Broadway Pizza in Armonk makes a mean slice. Personally, I think Dom and Vinnies on Knollwood Rd is the best Pizza in town but it may be a bit far. The Westchester is more high brow than the Pallisades, and if the kids are with you the Palisades is worth the ride (much more fun stuff to do there, and a lot more restaurants). Your pretty much screwed when it comes to mass transit, I'd plan on renting a car for the entire stay if at all possible. A hour drive up the Taconinc Parkway will give you plenty of views of the foliage, but if you're looking to get even more involved hiking in Harriman State Park in Rockland can't be beat. Not sure what the bar scene is like up in Armonk...but my gut tells me that there isn't too much going on and that the bars along Mamaroneck Ave in White Plains might be the best move (especially if you can be out of there by 11ish when the younger crowd piles in). There's like 10 bars in a 3 block stretch so you can pick your poison. For hayrides and such you may need to look in Putnam county. The end of October may be late for farmer's markets but Outhouse Orchards is 30 minutes or so up 684 and it might be worth giving them a call to see what's what. Enjoy!

I think you may have to consider renting a car as its very hard to get around Westchester without one

I would look to go Apple Picking. It's so much fun and there are plenty of places to choose from. Most apple picking places have a farmers market and sell cider doughnuts and apple pie. You'll also get to see lots of leaves for "leaf peeping"

Outhouse orchards is nice but I personally love Barton
Where to: Go Apple Picking in NY, NJ & CT! (NY Metro Parents Magazine)

I love the Palisades Mall because it has more to do, more places to eat and a ton more shops while the Weschester has a more "uppity" feel to it.

As for pizza, I could recommend a bunch of places in lower Westchester but not as familiar with the Armonk area

Here's a link - you may find some stuff in there useful

JYYanks, Thanks for the links, my kids are looking forward to this trip & so am I. Hopefully, the Fall Foliage won't progress too rapidly, otherwise, I'll have to make a trip to Long Island.
