Help finding a place for my record store
I own a small retail business. We sell CDs, records, books, dvds, posters, etc.
Not exactly a growing business, but I still love it and don't want to give it up. The CDs and DVDs are dying, but the records and books are doing just fine. I've been looking around NY (also looking in CT and NJ) in hopes of finding the perfect place to relocate the store. I like New Paltz, but they don't need a record store. Any suggestions? Ideally I would like to be within 90 miles of NYC. If it helps, the store isn't exactly mainstream. No "Top 40" radio hits. Art books and liberal politics. Not quite "Other Music" in NYC (if you've been), but leaning that direction.

Mt. Kisco. Not ideal perhaps, but better than most of the alternatives I can think of.

New Paltz and Peekskill are both decent ideas. Nyack could work, already does have a couple used book stores though. Pleasantville could be an option.

I could definitely see something like this working in Pleasantville, and there are a few available store fronts on Wheeler Ave which has a lot of foot traffic.

I'm going to go a little "out of the box" and recommend the Fleetwood section of Mt. Vernon to you. Unlike the rest of that small city, it is a very nice, diverse area with a lot of NYC commuters, many of whom are into the arts. Rents are cheap by Westchester standards and I can tell you living here that there are quite a few empty storefronts for rent.
Good luck!

A hipsterish kind of record store would work in Beacon since it gets loads of artsy types coming up for DIA: Beacon. The main street is bustling and is already alive with small businesses so you would have to be a pioneer as much as in other towns. I seriously doubt you could do well without either a local college crowd or the hip tourists. That said, Beacon is your choice.

Mount Kisco would work, there used to be a record store downtown called Exile on Main Street, and I still hear people talking about that place and wishing they would reopen.

In Westchester - Katonah and Armonk perhaps, but they are expensive.
Also check out Nyack and Piermont In Rockland county.
