My son was born late November and I started him in K at 4. He was used to full day daycare/preschool since he was 11 weeks old. I felt he was ready. Yes, he is almost a year younger than some in his grade but he came out of K reading and doing basic math. If he did struggle, he would have received help. Worse case, he would have redone K if need be.
Many people hold their sons back due to future sports.. thinking being bigger will give them the advantage in high school.
Its a personal decision. I decided since my son was eligible for K that I would send him. Redoing a whole year in PreK just would not have been challenging for him at all.

This is why it's important for people to choose where they live carefully. You were smart, because the majority of states don't allow kids to start K at 4.
