white plains ridgeway neighborhood questions
Can anyone comment on the ridgeway neightborhood? I've been told it is a nice neighborhood to live in white plains. I looked at the school test scores and they are lower than the rest of white plains. So is this a good neighborhood in white plains and how good?

are you kidding me? Ridgeway is one of the most exclusive and highly desirable neighborhoods in White Plains. You have these huge oaks, and grand houses all along the ridgeway..its a very very nice area. Where did you get these test scores/results from?
I'd say its comparable to The prospect park neighborhood in White Plains.

Hey thanks for the feedback! I got the info from: Mod cut: no links to competing sites What do you mean by exclusive? Anyone can buy a house there. Did you mean the amenities in the neighborhood? Please give me more details. Anyone agre/disagree with wordlife?

When I say exclusive, I mean it is a very expensive neighborhood. I believe a house in that area would easily go for more than 1M.
As far as neighborhood amenities go the high school and ridgeway elementary school are located in the vicinity (a catholic high school, Stephinac is located in the vicinity as well). There's also a synagogue over there too, I can't recall the name of the top of my head though, and some other churches. There are about three or four golf courses (I think one of them is a country club as well). There's a good deal of doctors living in the neighborhood as well due to its distance to the New York Hospital White Plains location (which is huge). There's also Saxon Woods which is a huge huge park and nature preserve.
I grew up in White Plains, I come from a background that is far from wealthy. In my opinion I would say yes and no as to if anyone can buy a house there. I've always thought that the least expensive homes were closer towards or on Mamaroneck avenue. Once you drive further in, especially on the ridgeway you can see for your self the quality of the homes (especially when you head towards one of those country clubs that borders the ridgeway). Its not a walkable neighborhood at all you'll definitely need a car to get to everything. There's one bus that passes through there the 60, it has a decent frequency if your heading south but I'm not aware of that many people in that neighborhood aside
Although I have seen people work hard, and buy houses in the ridgeway vicinity but there are still some sections of the neighborhood that are exclusive with very expensive houses/housing.
I would suggest that you come check it out and see it for yourself, its a very relaxed and calm area.

I don't have kids in the WP school system so I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that the district's policy allows parents to choose the elementary and middle school that there children attend. If this is the case, then I'd think that the specific neighborhood should have very little impact on test scores.

Thanks for the info. It does seem like a nice area. Still the test scores worry me. Hopefully, the elementary/midle schools are better than the test scores lead you to think.

I second the motion on Ridgeway being an admirable place to live. I wouldn't listen to test score stats... I've found that very often school stats are wrong or misguided. Visit the school and talk to other parents. When I was young, Ridgeway Elementary hosted the WP school system's Gifted and Talented program, and many of the other kids in it were from that district. I think in an affluent neighborhood like Ridgeway, you can't go wrong.

looks like I may be joining the neighborhood after all.
Any more advice about the area after I move in? One question I had is about the parking. If I have visitors over can they park on the street? I know theres no parking in white plains over night, but I just mean during the day on a weekend. I am also new to owning a house so I need to find out stuff like if people use landscapers or just mow their own lawn and other maintenance things.
