We are looking at moving to a apartment complex near the fleetwood train station. Is this area a safe area to walk in at night? There is an overpass you have to walk under to get to our address on bronxville rd.
Yes, it's safe. Fleetwood is actually a very nice area that is different from most of the rest of Mt. Vernon in many ways.
Only issue with Fleetwood is schools, and then (and this assumes it would be an issue for you to begin with) only after elementary school, as the middle and high school pretty much cover the whole city. Though for elementary there's also a private Montessori school right in the neighborhood (the Milestone School).
Fleetwood is a great neighborhood. There are lots of nice little restaurants and shops on the Mt. Vernon side. I would have no fear walking from the Fleetwood station to Bronx River Rd. at night. Because of the overpasses (Cross County Parkway, Bronx River Pkwy. and Broad St. bridge) it may look shadowy but it is quite safe.
