Goldens bridge actually is a great choice!!! Right off the 684, and I think it forks to the saw mill parkway(again, its a bit curvy) to mount kisco. I cant remember if the fork occurs before or after Goldens bridge..but its right around in that area...Plus, if you did have a teeny bit urge to go in the city...the train is there.

IKEA...Love ikea...hmnnnn where is the closest one? Paramus I think..there is rumor that they are building one near us..but I dont see any signs yet.. :-(

I dont know what town is off Hartscrabble road off the 684...but that seems nice...I just like a restaurant up there called Mona Lisas.

Personally, I would go nuts and use the equity in your house, because you plan on going back anyway..just enjoy the time while you are here!
Coming from Brewster, the Sawmill splits off 684 just past the train station Golden's Hill. I go past it whenever I go into Rockland county to visit some college buddies.

Hartscrabble road is Exit 8. I believe it is Croton or Croton Falls. The nearest IKEA is New Haven, depending on how far north you go in Westchester, but if you are in southern westchester, Paramous would be a shorter trip.

The Saw Mill Parkway ends south of Goldens Bridge. The end is connected to I-684 at the exit for rte 35 in Katonah. You can take either 684 or Saw Mill to many parts of Mt. Kisco and the Saw Mill is wide open and not as bad as further south through most of that area. You can also take rte 17 right down into Mt Kisco as well. It is why I thought those towns might be closest to what ankersm was looking for.

The towns closest to exit 8 and Hardscrabble Rd. are North Salem, Purdy's and Croton Falls. Haven't seen the place you mentioned, Mona Lisa?

Both Paramas and Hicksville take about the same traveling time to get to for the IKEA from northern Westchester, much will depend on traffic and the route you choose. New Haven is also abit more than an hours drive, more or less (often more as you get close to rte 95).

My work takes me into the Yorktown Town Hall frequently and that is where I learned about the quirk in the naming of the town. There are no real differences between Yorktown and Yorktown Heights except for historical designations as the town grew. Yorktown is the name of the Town which also incorporates smaller "hamlets", some of which have separate zip codes. Yorktown and Yorktown Heights have the identical zip code. The original Yorktown was in the area where routes 132 and 202 intersect. It was the original town from colonial times, the church on that corner played a roll in the Revolutionary War. The "heights" designation came up with the building of the railroad in what is now central Yorktown and includes the shopping area as well as Town Hall. The railroad no longer exists and its graded right of way has been incorporated into the county's bike path system that is also great for walking. Additional zipcodes will vary with "hamlets" within the town Jefferson Valley and Shrub Oak and Mohegan on the northern end of Yorktown and Kitchawan on the south, Crompond to the west . Probably a lot more than you needed to know - but didn't want someone to make you feel one place was better or worse than the other. The southern half of the town does seem to house more of the larger and spaced apart homes, if you wanted acreage.

For the price of homes in Westchester..you could buy 4 homes of equal quaility. Houses here (franklin and st lawrence counties) range from 30k-120k for the best of the best..I couldnt believe the ghetto homes they sell down there for 100k to 200k. Up here you could have acres and acres and a pool and stables ..for that insane price ..but jobs dont pay well either, shopping is limited, but you dont have to lock you doors ever

Didn't you say in another post that all the criminals live in Malone and Plattsburgh? And isn't Malone in Franklin County? On that note, most people live in Westchester for its relative proximity to other locales, and for excellent school systems. That's what makes it so expensive.

Default Malarky

Molly, who seems to exist everywhere at once in New York State (and doesn't have a good word to say about anywhere), lives up to her name.
And by the way, I like Harlem.
