Is there an easy way to identify who the builder was for a specific property? There is a specific builder I am looking to avoid. Are property records available online, specifically for Buncombe or Henderson county? Thanks!

In most areas you can contact your county/city planning or building department and request the as-builts of a property, or even application records. Somewhere in that documentation, the builder is identified.

Sometimes all of this information is online, sometimes you have to request it in person.

Thanks for the info! I was hoping for something a little easier. When looking for a home I was just hoping to avoid even looking at homes by that builder. Where I currently live (Michigan), in most places you can view property ownership history online by address. I was hoping to find something similar.

Go to the county GIS site. Type in an address or name, and when the property in question comes up select “property card”. This will bring up a list of past and present owners.

The ownership record isn't necessarily going to tell you the builder unless it's a builder/developer selling spec houses.

Totally true. It just seemed the OP was looking for that info. Maybe s/he knows a certain property was first owned by the builder

The Buncombe permit website has contact info for most who work on the house. Contractor, plumber and electrician are on there for the recent past. Dunno how far back it might go as I never didn’t find what I needed.

I would think the realtor would have or could get this information.
