Hi All,

Just received an offer to relocate from Southern California to the area. I've been to the Asheville area and was surprised by how much I liked it. Being born and bred in Southern California it is quite a different place, but charming, peaceful, and beautiful. Liked the walking-small city aspects. Looking to start a family here if relocated. People say the schools aren't great, but coming from LA it would be hard to find worse and we would have some time anyways.

Have some questions about jobs in the area. From most of the posts it seems that jobs are scarce, but am looking for possible specific input on our situation. I'll obviously be fine with employment, but wondering what the job picture looks like for my fiancee. She has a great education with a B.S. from a University California school and a recent MBA. Not many years of work experience, but very entrepreneurial, anaytical, and great references. Any ideas on interesting companies in the area? Somewhere good to get a foot in the door. I make decent money so she can take a bit of a gamble. Also wondering what types of industries are underrepresented and could be potential opportunities for business ventures.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

Can't help out on the business front other than to say that there is not much here. From what I can gather, that has been the case historically (aside from manufacturing).

I did want to say that you should not be concerned about schools. There are many options, both public and private that provide a very good education.

They are few and far between. If she has an entrepreneurial spirit, her best bet is to start her own company.
