None to both.

The only sure jobs around here are either in a restaurant or hotel.

As said there are few jobs available outside the tourism and health care industry, so go back to nursing or med school. I have a friend looking for a job here and he can't find anything that will pay a living wage. He currently lives in Virginia, owns a house here, makes about twice the average Buncombe County household income and is waiting until he does find a job to move here. The one interview he has gotten would have paid him about half what he now makes and offered no benefits or promotion potential for the first 6-12 months. Recent announcements about company expansions in the local area were factory floor work in the $10-12/hr range.

As a local florist said to me, a few days after we moved in, "Honey, I hope you brung all your
money, 'cause there is none to be made here." I didn't quite get what she meant, back in
Sept 2001...I get it now.

we are moving in the beginning of next year and I am sure to find a job. BUT - this will just be job, while hubby is feeding the family with his job (travels and works from home). after browsing the forum for quite a while, I don't expect to find anything well-paid (12 $ and above ...) too fast ...

software consultant. as someone else mentioned, he would be able to make about half of it in WNC, IF he would be able to find something locally.
