Job Searching: Esthetician.
Right now I'm going to school for Esthetician (skin specialist) in Jacksonville, FL (graduate May 2011). I'm hoping, when I graduate, that I'll be able to move to Asheville! I just wanted to know how the market is for a skin specialist up there. Job market for salon/spa, money wise, etc. It seems like every post I've read that it states you must have a job within at least a week to make it in Asheville. Which I understand since Jacksonville is a pretty expensive town, but I just want to be sure if there's any jobs for that up there and if I'll be able to make it whatever the cheapest rent is for an apartment. I looked up apartments online and the cheapest I found was, I think, $450? Not too sure.
Thank you!
Morgan

Oh boy, here we go again - plan on coming here for about a week (7 days) and look at (this is a recording) mountain times, craigslist, and the citizen-time, and iwanna (.75 for that one - the online version is not good) and look. That really is the better/best way to do this. Also get in touch with the Western NC Univ at Asheville and AB Tech and ask them where their roommate postings are.

When will you graduate--timing is very important up here. If you end up working in an establishment that caters to tourists then the big season is easter through xmas. January is so dead that some business close for the month of January and many shops only open 3-4 days a week. So you have to be able to make lots of money while the tourists are here. If you want to cater to locals then you'd better find a shop with a good client list. At any rate, with no experience you probably won't end up in a first class spa/shop. Follow burl's advice on looking for room mates or apartments. Also be aware that while there is a bus system it is limited so unless you find a place within walking distance of your daily needs and work you'll need a car. Good luck
