How are newcomers received in Maggie Valley? I intend to stay there for a very long time and I want to be sure it's not clique-ish and closed to outsiders. I am a senior citizen who likes to mix and mingle and don't want to hit a stone wall!!

I lived in the Waynesville / Maggie Valley for a couple of years, and although I am not a person of color, I never noticed any real race issues. I had a child at Pisgah High School in Canton and there were some kids there with the typical racist attitude and even alluded to the KKK a few times, but that is something you can find in just about any town. Waynesville and Tuscola High School was a much more accepting place, as was Waynesville Middle - the middle school for all of Waynesville / MG. I also think that the Canton side of the county had a bigger problem with sexual orientation than with people of color. HTH.

i grew up outside philadelphia and never heard anyone "allude" to the KKK ever. That was NOT cool. at all. so...I'd have to disagree with this part of your statement. peace out. . . yall.

Oh and by the way, talking about the KKK or allowing others to talk about it in your presence in any way that is not saying HEY THE KKK is some BAD ****. is not cool. Its racist. I'm white, straight and that's my opinion. !
