Default Anyone know the Best Area to Raise a Family just Outside of Asheville?

I'm needing cities and subdivison/community names and/or zip codes of good family (2 young kids) neighborhoods just outside of Asheville. Black Mountain sounds really good but I don't know the names of the areas that are close to town. We prefer an acre or 2 of land so we can't be inside Asheville. We want to be close to schools also.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Arden, Fairview, Avery Creek, Fletcher, Mills River, and Weaverville are towns worth considering. The subdivision, as it is typically thought of, is fairly rare in the mountains, where topography often prevents large-scale suburban developments.

Inside Asheville, there are neighborhoods of all flavors: Kimberly, Grove Park, Montford, Haw Creek, Beverly Hills, Oakley, Kenilworth, Biltmore Park, Biltmore Lake, Bent Creek, Royal Pines, West Asheville... ... ... just pick a budget and a vibe and there's probably a neighborhood for you.

cooperwx - I don't think any of those neighborhoods offer large lots - the average in-town lot is 1/4 acre or less, a few maybe 1/2 acre. OP wanted an acre or two, so I think she is going to have to look well outside the city limits of Asheville.

Although now that I think of it, to the east it might be possible to find something with that size land - maybe around the Riceville area or Swannanoa, maybe even somewhere in Haw Creek.

Thanks, I'll check out those areas. I know I can't get a large lot in Asheville, I'm definitely not in that price range.

oops, totally missed that. Riceville is a good suggestion; also Fairview, Weaverville, Mills River. An acre + lot is tough to find.

Check out Swannanoa, a small community, not incorporated, between Asheville and Black Mountain. You may still be able to find small acreages there. Or maybe head north to Madison County, just north of Weaverville...The Mars Hill area still has acreage available.
